Comments from the Tour Alabama.org website regarding Larry Martin's art featuring characters and eccentrics.

American Characters (A series featuring older, often eccentric living individuals- perhaps best epitomized by his classic drawing of "America's Goatman", one of the most popular print editions on the market for the past 20 years).

I live in Fayetteville, TN and am 60 years old. I fondly remember "The Goat Man". He always stopped at the fork in the road where Rachael's Restaurant was(431S and Ardmore Hwy.) My Daddy would always talk to him and I would pet the goats. I remember one time that I hugged him and was asked if he smelled bad. I do not remember him smelling but I think he was a kind and old man. I have nothing but fond, fond memories of him. My Daddy, now deceased often talked to him for hours. He always said he was a roamer but had many a tale to tell.

We have a print of the goat man holding the goat with both signatures and thumb prints. We love the picture but was wondering what the value may be of this picture. the print is in excellent condition. Thank you

I grew up in Alabama and remember the Goatman traveling through Centre each year. My dad would take me to see him and the goats. I now live in Marion, NC and people talk about him traveling through here and camping near the railroad tracks.

Years later, an interesting connection happened among the Goatman, my dad, and you. When my dad, Woddy Roberts, was 65 I gave him the book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by Betty Edwards, and dad began drawing with a no.2 pencil and was actually very good at it. Later we went to Gatlinburg and visited an art gallery and saw your print of the Goatman - we commented on how it had to be our "goatman". My parents slipped back and bought it for me. Later still my dad met you and also bought your print for, I believe, the AL State Duck Stamp, my daughter now has it. He thought very highly of you. He died several years. I now have both your Goatman and his art hanging in my home. Thank you for encouraging him in his art and for your talent. I love my Goatman.

Hello, and Thanks to all of you who've commented. I appreciate your sharing personal recollections
with me. I still have many conversations with people who visit our gallery, the Wren's Nest
, and enjoy sharing my own memories.

By the way, I apologize for not answering Sandra's question about the print. Currently, the SST (double signed and thumbprinted) is worth $250- $300, and will continue to appreciate in value as time goes by. Larry

I have the goat man print. It was framed already when I purchased it at an auction about 15 years ago. It is signed by Larry but not finger printed that I know of. The mat and frame could be covering the thumb print though, not sure. There is not a series number or production number that I can see. Larry what is this worth? Please respond to Timex421@aol.com

I so LOVE the print of Goatman of America, I fell in Love with him. I never met the man but Larry Martin, you brought him to life for me and my Son. I had both the goatman and the reminising prints of the goatman and now my Son Proudly shows them off in his home. I so wish that I had met this man he is so gentle in the prints. Thank You Larry, you have a wonderful talent with a pencil.

When I was a Small kid we lived on Happy Valley Farms in Rossville, Georgia. Every year the Goat Man would come through and my dad and Pimpaw would take us up the road from the house where he was at. My brother would pet the goats and listen to him talk. I thought the wagon was awesome. I will be ordering a print soon. Thanks Mr. Martin for this Art piece. Larry J Styles, e-mail me at styleslarryj@yahoo.com ,and let me know how to order this print.
